Overview

ACLC “Fun In the Summer” Learning Program presents academic and non-academic programming for students in grades two thru eight and is provided by Ann’s Christian Learning Center (ACLC), a state approved, faith-based private tutoring company committed to providing excellent academic services to students in elementary and middle schools.

ACLC “Fun in the Summer” Learning Program offers a full day program with academic and non-academic activities to promote the intellectual, social and physical development of each student. The daily schedule for ACLC “Fun in the Summer” Learning Program is divided into two distinctive programming activities:

  1. Academic Program activities provide continued academic support in Math and English for students through small group tutoring. The focus of our efforts is to:
    1. Prevent regression in student’s academic performance.
    2. Accelerate students’ progress based on their Success Improvement Plan and,
    3. Prepare students for continued academic growth in the upcoming school year.

The academic segment of the program offers one 3-week session that delivers a total of 48 hours of targeted tutoring to meet specific academic needs. Tutoring is done in the morning hours. Students who commit to the program by maintaining excellent attendance and consistent cooperation with their tutors inevitably demonstrate progress.

  1. Non-academic Program activities are varied and age appropriate. The objective of the non-academic activities is to promote self esteem through:
    1. Recreational activities
    2. Social skill training and
    3. Life skill training

The scheduling of the non-academic segment of ACLC “Fun in the Summer” Learning Program runs in tangent with the academic segment.  For three weeks, students engage in a variety of courses and activities that will further promote their development as learners. Each day students will participate in two non-academic activities. For the
non-academic portion of the day, ACLC “Fun in the Summer” Learning Program may collaborate with community partners who specialize in recreational programming for children.

In addition, an individualized success plan is created to target specific areas for development for each student.

A variety of modality is appropriately applied to each learning objective whereby students are given ample opportunities to learn and practice new skills. The intensity of the summer tutoring demands activities that are fun, engaging, stimulating and effective. The learning tools and materials used at ACLC’s “Fun in the Summer” Learning Program are purposely selected to produce a learning experience that is enjoyable for each student and achieves results.

The Non-academic curriculum comprises the following:

Entrepreneurship: Urban Enterprise - is an economics and business related program where young people create and run their own business over the course of 3 weeks.  Students work together to apply principles of economics as they solve real business problems.

Areas that will be covered include:  good behavior in the school community as well as table manners, proper school demeanor, thank you notes, host and guest skills and lessons on speaking to adults with respect.

Staff:

The Executive Director of ACLC will be the fiscal manager of the summer program. A Director of Learning will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of ACLC, primarily the managing of staff and the implementation of the curriculum. The Director of Learning will ensure that all students are learning in their small group and that all Tutors are qualified and equipped to tutor students and achieve results.

Tutoring with ACLC is a highly skilled position and only the most qualified candidates are selected to administer our curriculum. The tutors for ACLC “Fun in the Summer” learning will be recruited from our pool of tutors, many of whom are current teachers working in a Massachusetts school and are well trained and experienced with the learning standards for their respective grades.

New tutors as well as veteran tutors of ACLC are required to complete an orientation and training before they can begin to work with ACLC Summer Learning Program. Tutors with minimal teaching experience are required to take ACLC Tutor Assessment Test in order to tutor with our program.

Standard screening is followed in compliance with the Office of Child Services.

Parents:

ACLC “Fun in the Summer” Learning Program works through relationships to achieve its goals, one such key relationship is the partnership with the parents. ACLC students succeed when parents and tutors enter a partnership and both are committed to the success of the student.

There are expectations of students as well as parents. Parents who make sure that their child attends tutoring consistently and complete assignments when applicable gain the most by experiencing the remarkable and the inevitable progress that their child demonstrates. In addition to completing all the necessary paperwork to enroll a child in ACLC “Fun in the Summer Learning", parents must also sign a Statement of Expectation to confirm their commitment to the student’s success.

Students:

Students who participate in ACLC “Fun in the Summer” Learning Program come from a number of school districts around Greater Boston. While the program was created for grades two through eight, within each grade, there are varying levels of academic performance. Our small group-tutoring model provides the ideal setting for students to maximize their academic performance. ACLC “Fun in the Summer” Learning Program has limited capacity therefore the students are considered on a first come, first served basis.

Application Process:

ACLC Summer program accepts a completed application for each student. Application include:

  • General Application/Registration Form
